International adoptions could be resumed and the course will be simplified. The proposed amendment of the law comes in the context in which 80 percent of the abandoned children are difficult to set up and are not wanted by the Romanian families.
On the other hand, those who will take children with disabilities will receive more money from the state. The project is now in the Chamber of Deputies. At present, there are over 50,000 abandoned children in Romania and only 3,000 of them are declared adoptable. And because of age, illness or ethnicity, about 80 percent of them have become “hard to adopt”.
